AlchemyAPI is capable of automatically categorizing your text, HTML or web-based content. Using complex statistics and natural language processing technology, the text categorization API can classify your content into the most likely content category (i.e. news, business, sports, etc.).
Use the text categorization API to filter or group your content before performing further analysis or to track the high-level topics of your documents.
Example text categorization
The Denver Broncos have signed middle linebacker Paris Lenon. He's expected to serve as veteran depth to a depleted defense. Lenon is a 12-year veteran who played for four teams. The 35-year-old has 809 tackles, 12 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and five interceptions in his NFL career. He most recently spent time with the Arizona Cardinals, starting 48 games in the past three seasons. He recorded 103 tackles, two sacks and one interception in the 2012 season. The Broncos are thin at linebacker after losing Stewart Bradley to a wrist injury.
The text categorization API call supports the following twelve categories: arts and entertainment, business, computers and internet, culture and politics, gaming, health, law and crime, religion, recreation, science and technology, sports, and weather.
Since text categorization and language detection are the two most common first analysis steps, the detected language is returned as well.
A statistically derived confidence score is returned with the response data that conveys how likely the identified category is correct.
AlchemyAPI supports text categorization in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.
Keyword extraction data can be returned in either JSON, XML or RDF to fit the needs of your application.
